Program Overview

Fall 2026

Winter Percussion is an indoor performance ensemble that brings marching percussion off the football field and into the gymnasium. Students perform choreographed shows that combine music, movement, and visual design in a competitive indoor setting.

The ensemble includes both marching battery percussion and a front ensemble featuring keyboard percussion, timpani, drum set, and electronic instruments. Performances are evaluated by judges on musical performance, visual design, technique, and overall effect, with each ensemble receiving a score and ranking within its competitive class.

A Winter Percussion performance begins with a large vinyl floor tarp that transforms the gym into a performance space. As the music begins, performers move and play within the design of the show, often incorporating props and theatrical elements that support the production’s theme.

The season runs from mid-November through April and is open to all high school percussionists enrolled in band.

Who Can Join?

All Are Welcome!

Winter Percussion is open to all Plymouth-Canton percussionists in grades 9–12 who are enrolled in a band class. Placement within ensembles is skill-based and determined by audition.

Winter Percussion allows students to deepen their musical skill while exploring creativity, movement, and performance in an indoor setting. The program builds discipline, teamwork, and confidence while offering a challenging and rewarding extension of the marching percussion experience.
