Fall 2026
The Jazz Band program offers students an in-depth education in jazz performance and improvisation. Students develop skills in ensemble playing, listening, theory, and stylistic interpretation while performing a wide range of jazz repertoire.

Jazz Band students work closely with professional musicians and educators from the Detroit area and have opportunities to perform, travel, and learn alongside nationally and internationally recognized jazz artists.

Jazz education at Plymouth-Canton emphasizes musicianship, collaboration, and creativity. Students learn scales, harmony, rhythm, and improvisation while gaining a deeper understanding of jazz history.
Who Can Join?

Jazz Band is open to all band students in grades 9–12 who are enrolled in a band class. Auditions are typically held in mid-November, with rehearsals beginning shortly after Thanksgiving break.

Jazz Band provides students with a deeper musical experience that builds confidence, creativity, and listening skills. Students learn how to express themselves musically while collaborating closely with peers and professional mentors.
