PCMB Students Selected for 2019 All State BandThe Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association (MSBOA) recently announced student placements for the 2019 All-State Ensembles Program. Four students from the Plymouth-Canton Educational Park (P-CEP) band program were selected for an ensemble.

The All-State program consists of five ensembles selected from recorded auditions. This year, 2,700 students auditioned for nearly 400 slots in the program. The selected students will perform on January 26, 2019 in Grand Rapids at the DeVos Center and Amway Grand Hotel. The event is being held in conjunction with the Michigan Music Conference – a conference for all music educators in the state of Michigan.

The P-CEP students that were selected for the All-State Ensembles Program are:

Nate Lewis, Senior – Baritone Saxophone, All-State High School Jazz Ensemble

Matthew Milanovich, Senior – Trumpet, All-State High School Jazz Ensemble

Anna Muller, Sophomore - Percussion, All-State High School Band Ensemble

Cooper Rossio, Senior – Euphonium, All-State High School Band Ensemble

“The All-State Band experience is an opportunity for some of our advanced students to surround themselves with the best of the best,” said G. Jonathan Thomann, director of Bands at P-CEP. “The audition process alone exposes students to other local musicians outside of Plymouth-Canton Community Schools who are striving for musical excellence and achievement in their community and school. Regardless of discipline, surrounding oneself around others who are excellent musicians inspires growth if approached with the right mindset.”

According to Thomann, to be selected as a member of the MSBOA All-State Band or to receive an honorable mention is a major honor, and is something to celebrate as a comprehensive band program.

“We are proud of all the students who auditioned, and look forward to many more of our students living up to this legacy in the future,” Thomann added. “This is the second year in a row we have had four students from our band programs selected to represent P-CEP at the Michigan Music Conference as members of the All-State Band and All-State Jazz Band, and I am extremely proud and honored for their recognition of excellence.”

The Plymouth-Canton Educational Park offers students a wide-range of music programs to participate in including five curricular band classes, music theory, full-orchestra, choir, three jazz bands, solo and ensemble, private lessons, marching band, winter guard, winter percussion, high school musicals, and more.
