Jonathan Thomann

Thomann serves as the Director of Bands at Plymouth-Canton High School in Canton, Michigan where he conducts the Concert Band, Symphony Band, Chamber Winds, assists with the Wind Ensemble and instructs a Music Theory course. His extra-curricular duties include Directing the Jazz Ensemble and Marching Band and overseeing the Winter-Guard and Winter Drum-Line. Mr. Thomann attended and received a Music Education degree from Eastern Michigan University and received his Masters Degree in Music Education and Wind Band Conducting at the Hartt School of Music in Harford, CT.

Prior to his current appointment, Thomann served as the Director of Choirs for one year, the Assistant Director of Bands at Novi High School in Novi, Michigan for two years, where he additionally served a one-year appointment as the Interim Director of Bands. Students under his direction have received high honors at the District and State Levels in Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, Michigan School Vocal Music Association, Festivals of Music, Dixie Classic Music Festivals, Michigan Competing Band Association, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, and Band of America. He was a guest conductor at the Michigan Music Conference in 2009 and in 2012.

As a clinician and designer, Mr. Thomann has been actively involved with numerous marching bands and indoor drum lines throughout the state of Michigan. He has proudly served as coordinator and drill designer for the Novi Winter Percussion Ensemble for a number of years including their appearance as a WGI Scholastic Open Finalist in 2007, WGI Regional Champion in 2011, and back-to-back State Champion 2012-2013.

As a performer, Mr. Thomann was a marching member of the Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps in 2002 and in 2003 aged out of the activity as a Euphonium Soloist. He later served as a member of the instructional staff at Southwind from 2004 to 2006. In 2009 Jonathan joined the instructional staff at Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps serving on the visual and music staffs until 2013. While at EMU Jonathan Performed with the Wind Ensemble as a freshman and later became the Principle Alto Saxophonist of that elite ensemble. He held the leadership positions of Section Leader and Drum Major for the EMU Marching Band. He was principle Euphonium Player for one year with the EMU Symphonic Band and played Lead Tenor Sax in the EMU Jazz Ensemble. In 2005 performed at the Detroit Jazz Festival. Thomann was the recipient of the Outstanding Senior Marcher Award and the Thomas Tyra Band EMU Band Scholarship.
