Senior Party Food

Any Senior parents who do not yet have a "job" for the Senior Party in June, please consider helping the food committee.

Cindi F. is the chair and asked me to help find some more help....and I know you are always the best and most willing workers at the Park!

Please contact me if you are interested. Tom and I did this several years ago for our son Matt's all night party and it was easy and very fun to see all the graduates as they appreciated and chowed the goodies!

Thank you!

Band-quet News

Anyone willing to set up for the Marching band banquet on Tuesday, Nov 21 please meet in the PHS cafeteria @ 2 pm

We need both parents and students........

Tuesday is a collaboration day so students will need to go to a designated location to wait until 2:10 and then make their way to the band room for instruction (or leave campus and return at 2:10.) We need help carrying boxes from cars, trophies from the case, shakos from the uniform room, and guard flags etc from the guard room and storage. We will also need help to return all those items at the end of the evening.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE join us to help if you are available! It is always an awesome evening of great celebration and tradition!

Contact me if you have any questions.

We are also in need of someone who will Chair this event next year. After 3 marchers, this is my final Senior year! I have compiled a notebook and have simplified all the work involved. It is easily delegated to a number of other volunteers so no one is doing all the work and each one's load is very manageable......
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE consider this volunteer opportunity so Mark S. doesn't have to read my notebook over the summer and add more to his already very full plate:)...which is OK when he is at the banquet, but not so much otherwise!

Thank you so much!

Jeanne S.

FIFE AND DRUM CORPS FUNDRAISER
The Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps is running a general fund fundraiser at Max and Erma's in Plymouth (5 mile and Beck) on Nov. 27th. Coupons will be available on the scrip table this week. As in Marching Band fundraisers, these coupons must be presented to the server in order for the Corps to get credit.

Like the Marching Band, the Corps represents the Plymouth community with excellence in marching and music. Every year we have several members who juggle schedules between PCMB and PFDC rehearsals and performances. This past season there were 8 Corps members who were also in the Marching Band. Now that Nationals are past, the Corps members get a couple months to rest and study. Starting in January they will be rehearsing for next years season that starts with a weekend band camp in late March.

As you know, Max and Erma's has great food and is a great place for fund raising, they will donate 20% of all proceeds from participating patrons at lunch and dinner on that day.

Thanks,

Al J.
President, Plymouth Fife and Drum Corps

WASHER PARENTS
Thanks to all of you for all your work with the uniform cleaning. Thanks for getting them back on a timely basis and keeping them organized for the kids. Thanks for the extra goodies you gave them too. Now that we are back from Indy, please return the cleaned uniforms by Monday, November 20th and please check the collars of the gray jackets for blue residue. We will have one more cleaning of uniforms after the marching band performs at "Variety Is" in February. Thanks again all of you!

PHOTOS
Thanks students for staying and having your photos taken on November 14th. We saw many of you, but not all! The last opportunity for getting photos taken and being able to talk personally with the photographer will be at the band banquet on November 21st. As I have stated, having a professional photo done is optional, but if you want your student to be included in the Group Shot of the complete 2006 Marching Band, then they need to have a head shot done! It has been awhile since we as booster group have had professional photographs done, it has been challenging getting all the photos done, thanks for your patience with all the date changes and other problems we have had. This is a service I would like to continue, and we will have a much better system the next go round. If you have any questions feel free to call Kelly S.

GARBAGE BAGS
Good News! The company has finally gotten black garbage bags back in the warehouse. I again have them available at the school for purchase. I will have some of them up at scrip night on Thursday, November 16th. I have some at my home too, if you want to come and pick some up there. Eventually, I will have the entire amount back up at the school. I, however, need to be contacted before you take bags from my stock. Thanks, Kelly S.

LOST AND FOUND
I will have all the merchandise out at the band banquet. After that, I will be taking it to a donation location. This will be the last time to retrieve your items!! Kelly S.

Welcome home and heartfelt congratulations to our Band!! We are very proud of you!!

Mark your calendars and plan to attend the
ANNUAL MARCHING BAND BANQUET
on Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. in the
PLYMOUTH HIGH SCHOOL CAFETERIA.

The “Band-quet” is for band members and their parents only (sorry no sibs) along with other invited guests. This evening’s purpose is to celebrate this great band season with awards, comments, laughs, and a lot of fun.

Place settings are provided for SENIOR band members and their parents, staff, equipment crew, and a few other guests.

Everyone else please bring your own plates, cups, napkins, and silverware.

Also, EVERYONE please bring a 2-liter bottle of pop, juice, or milk for sharing.

Each family (including Seniors) is asked to bring a dish to pass to serve AT LEAST 20 people according to the following list:
(please bring your dish cut and ready to serve with serving utensil)

MAIN DISH: All Saxes, Baritone, Clarinet, Mello
DESSERT: All percussion, Drum Majors
SALAD: Flute, Trombone, Tuba
SIDE DISH: Color Guard
ROLLS & BUTTER: Trumpet

Most students like to “dress up”…and most parents dress “casual nice”

Attention SENIOR PARENTS !

I would like to create a video segment featuring our seniors from their EARLY
YEARS as musicians and dancers. My goal is to collect video segments, 10-15
seconds in duration, of as many of our seniors as possible. I will then compile
them into a 'before they were famous' video segment to be shown during the band
banquet next Tuesday.

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Please look through your video archives for a clip of your precious darling. I
can accept and process VHS tape, 8 mm camcorder tape, video movie files or DVD
videos.

If you are 'digitally empowered', I would prefer a disc with ONLY the clip you
want me to include; otherwise, please leave me some information regarding where
on the video source I can find the desired clip.

I will also need a title of sorts for your video clip; this might be
particularly important for clips from the really early years, when we might not
even recognize the performers.

Finally, if you don't have any great old video, that's OK too; some classic
still shots will be fine.

DEADLINE:

I will need some time to assemble this, so I need your video materials by this
Thursday, November 16. I will be at Scrip this Thursday collecting video
materials.

Please refer to previous Fan-Outs on this topic for more information. Thanks
for your help with this.

Cheers,
Randy C.

STORYBOOK UPDATE
Lorraine Paffenroth will be at the Scrip tables this Thursday evening to accept your discs of Nationals and general season photos for inclusion in our Passion Within StoryBook. If you are uploading your photos to the band website, please do so by Friday, November 17th.

Lorraine will also be accepting orders for books as well. Thursday will be the last opportunity to order to guarantee Christmas delivery. The book will be available for up to 12 months online for future orders after January 1, 2007. Please contact Lorraine directly at lpaffenroth@yahoo.com, or by phone at (734) 455-8213 with questions.

Visa, MC, Discover and AMEX are accepted. You are welcome to order via email with a credit card.

LAMINATOR NEEDED
We are looking for someone who can provide the laminating of the 35 Senior placemats for the Banquet. Everyone will enjoy the wonderful "re-cap" of the season on the colored placemats at banquet, but we like to laminate the Senior placemats for keepsake. PHS will do the copying for us but is charging $1 per lamination this year and so we are hoping that someone can instead donate the laminating. Please contact me if you can do this.

Thank you! Jeanne S.

PHOTO UPDATE FROM KELLY
HI Parents, I know it has been awhile since I have discussed photos. There are lists of students who we need to get finished up posted in the Band Room. I am hoping to finish up with the kids listed, on Tuesday, November 14 after the mtgs. with percussion and winds finish up. I really need you and especially the kids to commit to staying to have their photo taken. The composite is mandatory, personal photos are totally up to you. I will have uniform pieces available for students to have the photo taken in, because washer parents will most likely have your students uniform with them being washed after nationals. I have a small window to get these photos done. I am waiting to hear from the photographer about the November 14 date, but he is as anxious as I to get these done, so I am pretty sure it will be a go. I also have to check with the directors about the exact times I can have kids to do photos. PLEASE PLAN ON GETTING YOUR STUDENTS PHOTO DONE ON THAT DATE! The photographer is most likely coming to the banquet on the 21st of November. So your photos can be reviewed and ordered with him at that time. Kelly S.

A Letter To Parents, Students, Family, and Friends

Dearest Band Family,

Kellie and I are proud and thrilled to announce the birth of our baby girl, Macaylah Ann Whitlock (Caylie for short). She is 9 lbs., 8 oz., and 21 inches. It is so wonderful for us to finally see her, hold her, and love her after an extremely difficult pregnancy for Kellie. We're
sure some of you wondered why Macaylah was not taken by C-section earlier than 37.5 weeks when Kellie's health became serious in October.

Prior to her birth we were told that Macaylah has a condition called Tetralogy of Fallot (teh-TRALL-o-gee of fall-O). Tetralogy of Fallot
is a complex heart defect that is present at birth. It involves four specific defects in the development of different parts of the heart. Surgery will be needed to repair these defects between 3-12 months of age. The doctors are on it and I have confidence in them.

Macaylah has also been diagnosed with Down's Syndrome. Down's Syndrome is a condition caused by the presence of an extra chromosome. Down's Syndrome is a genetic variation that causes delay in physical, intellectual and language development. People with Down's Syndrome all have a certain degree of learning disability (mental handicap). The degree of disability varies from person to person and it is impossible to tell at birth what that degree will be. Regardless of the severity we will be very active doing all we can to help her with this handicap.

We found this out last July and have taken the time since to prepare
for her arrival through numerous genetic testing, counseling, ultrasounds, doctors, and our own research. There are other medical
concerns but they are more minor in nature and will be treated through medicine and various therapies. Kellie and I have been blessed with the best quality of care and as a result our daughter has been and will be in good care whatever her needs will be as we love and parent her throughout her life.

Our little girl is coming into the world with a lot of problems but we are confident that we can help her through this and that she will be
loved and cared for by many.

As for Kellie, surgery was required and more surgeries will be
necessary to repair various complications from the pregnancy, which
has aggravated older surgical repairs. Various family members will be in our home in the month of November helping me to take care of her and the baby as they heal and rebuild their strength. I will be in and out of school during this first month.

It is difficult to have one's private life in the public eye. Our
parents, families, and close friends have been our support as we
waited for Macaylah's arrival. We are blessed to be bringing our
daughter into the world and the band family. We look forward to
introducing her to all of you and ask that you welcome her into this
life with support and care. We are thrilled to be blessed by her
presence in our lives. She is indeed a gift from God.

Thank you all for your prayers, cards, gifts, meals, and more
importantly, your love through this time. Every act of kindness has
been treasured. You have cared for me in more ways than I could count, and for this I will be forever grateful.

With Love, Gratitude, and Blessings,

Marc Whitlock

Coffee Fundraiser -- LAST CHANCE
All orders are due with check or cash at the Booster meeting on Tuesday night.

TO SENIOR PARENTS - REQUEST FOR PHOTOS AND VIDEO CLIPS !
For the band banquet video, I'd like to create a VIDEO MONTAGE from VIDEO CLIPS of our seniors performing back in their formative years. What do I mean, formative years? My personal example is 15 seconds of Lyla E. and Carrie C. in a trombone duet playing "Buffalo Gals Won't You Come Out Tonight" at a 6th grade music recital at West Middle School - with matching bandanas. It's just too cute !

So, for senior parents, PLEASE DIG OUT THOSE OLD GRADE SCHOOL AND MIDDLE SCHOOL DANCE AND BAND VIDEOS and get them to me ASAP. Let me know where to find the critical material on the tape or disc and I'll create the clip and assemble the clips into the full video montage.

And don't forget to post on the web site your ever-so-cute or otherwise 'special' still photos of your darling senior.

"DRIVE TIME - 2006"
Tuesday's Booster Meeting will be the last chance to pick up a music CD before the drive to Indy. Nearly 80 minutes of marching band, day band highlights and small ensemble performances by our kids over the past two years - great stuff !

"JUST ANOTHER DAY AT THE OFFICE"
DVD video from the run-through last Saturday night is available. This DVD includes a special pre-performance chapter of "Individual Zooms" where I zoomed in on and followed individual marchers during the rehearsal. I hope I included your marcher.

Cheers for Band,
Randy

WHAT NOT TO BRING TO NATIONALS
Please be advised that the cell phone rule for Nationals is the same as for Band Camp? NO STUDENTS ARE TO HAVE CELL PHONES WITH THEM AT ANY TIME DURING THE TRIP. Any phones that are found will be confiscated. The Chaperones will all have cell phones if anyone?s parents need to be contacted.

PARENTAL VISITS DURING NATIONALS
Parents should not plan on visiting the school where our students are staying unless they are a chaperone or on the food, medical or equipment crews. The students are going to be on a very tight schedule and concentrating on the show and will not have the ability to visit with parents. The only time parents may come to the school is at the end of Saturday?s events, after Finals. When the Band returns from the RCA Dome, parents are invited to the school to celebrate with the students.

STUDENTS LEAVING NATIONALS
If any students are going home with their parents either Saturday night or Sunday morning, the student must submit a signed permission note from their parent to be released. All notes should be turned in to Ginger B. at the Tuesday Booster meeting.

LAST BOOSTER MEETING OF 2006
This Tuesday, November 7th at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Band Room.

WHAT TO BRING TO NATIONALS / MEDICAL INFORMATION

WHAT TO BRING TO NATIONALS

? Bring ALL materials you would need for any rehearsal at home. You will need drill cards, drill books, WATER BOTTLE, pencils, breathing tube and ALL other equipment.
? Bedding. Because we will sleep in gyms, you will need a sleeping bag and/or blankets and pillow. Some people find an inflatable air mattress to be comfortable. If you decide to use an air mattress, please limit it to twin size because of limitations with floor and packing space. Please store in garbage bag with your name on it like we do at Band Camp.

** ALL SLEEPING BAGS/BED ROLLS MUST BE AT SCHOOL BY 7:00PM TUESDAY NIGHT!!! **

? Shower items. Towel and washcloth, toiletries (soap, shampoo, toothpaste and toothbrush, etc.). You may want to bring flip flops as well.
? Hair dryer. Please double up with a friend or two. There are NEVER enough outlets anyway.
? All uniform parts and accessories including:
- marching shoes
- 2 pairs black socks
- member shirt(s)
- other plain white/gray t-shirt as back up or second shirt.

EVERYTHING SHOULD BE CLEARLY LABELED WITH YOUR NAME!

? New members should talk with upper-classmen. They have been through these trips many times and can let you in on some of the secrets for a successful trip.
? Remember to PACK LIGHT! You must be able to carry you own luggage.
? Bring Dinner, Drinks and Snacks for the bus ride to Indianapolis. Glass containers are NOT allowed.
? You will need to bring money for the Mall on Friday night. This is for food or anything else you wish to purchase. This is a long-standing band tradition that we will continue.
? Do not bring entertainment items such as large video games/TV?s, etc. (iPods and Gameboys are OK)

NOTES:
? We are staying at New Augusta Public Academy?North, 6450 Rodebaugh Road, Indianapolis, IN 48263

? Emergency Contact Numbers: Mark Stamper - Cell (734)260-0302; Scott Ragland - Cell (734)634-3088
? It is essential that you are alert and conscience this weekend. Things happen very quickly and major changes can occur. Also, one person?s negligence can cause major problems. THINK AHEAD! So.........
? Protect and care for all of your belongings
? Be respectful (to the extreme) of ALL the adults traveling with you as well as the people you meet.
? On the bus: Use garbage bags, finish all pop, etc. (to avoid spills; in bottles only), listen and obey chaperones and bus leaders, SIT in the seats, (NO kneeling facing backwards or sitting on the back of the seats, etc.) Attendance must be taken with everyone seated and quiet!
? Remember: Even if you are the youngest and newest band member, everything you say and do is ?under a microscope? and will reflect nationally on all of us! Our heritage is one of excellence in every area ? Morality, Dignity, Sportsmanship, and Performance. Only your very best is good enough.
? Finally, Please double check EVERYTHING on this list BEFORE leaving home!!!!

Medical/Emergency Information For Nationals

Another reminder that if there are any changes in your child?s medical information or medication?or if you have any changes in your insurance or emergency contact information?please get that to me ASAP before we leave for Indianapolis. To prepare for our trip to Nationals, I will be using the same information that was provided on the Medical Release forms that were filled out in June. It is imperative that you contact me if there have been any changes. Just like school and Band Camp, students ARE NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE ANY MEDICATIONS IN THEIR POSSESSION?prescription or over the counter?while at Nationals. The exceptions to this rule are:

Inhalers for asthma
EPI-PENS
Insulin pumps
Acne creams

Remind your child to keep the INHALERS AND EPI-PENS WITH THEM AT ALL TIMES!! The nurses will have Tylenol, Motrin, cold medicine, Benadryl, etc. with us?you do not need to send this unless they take it daily or you prefer them to have a specific brand.

I will be collecting medications for the trip before and after the November 7th Booster Meeting. Please make every effort to bring it that night. If that is not possible, please bring it to school starting at 2:30PM on Wednesday, November 8th prior to departure. Make sure that the medications are in their original container and that the dosage is clearly marked. Please put the containers in a Ziploc bag with your child?s name on it. If you should have any questions, please call or email me ASAP.

Thank you,
Vickie R.

PLEASE READ: MEMBER ACCOUNT BALANCE UPDATE

As of the evening of November 4th, we have about 80 accounts that owe money to PCMB. Some accounts include balances that are not only tied to this year's fees, but to prior years as well. Collectively, the total outstanding from these 80 accounts is $40,300. Just two weeks ago, we had 118 accounts in arrears. I would like to thank those of you who have submitted payments to your account. For the rest of you, we have provided ample notices regarding payment schedules and statements have been distributed on a fairly regular basis since just prior to band camp in August.

Inasmuch as we haven't had the means to personally reach out to ALL of the outstanding accounts and discuss their outstanding balances owing, I have, over the last two weeks, isolated the top 30, or so, member accounts that have larger balances owing. I have corresponded with these accounts via email, phone calls, or both. Several of these members have responded and we have worked out agreements regarding the paydown of account balances. However, there have been many who have yet to respond in any way. This is very troubling. Further, if these members continue to be nonresponsive, it will put us in a position where your child's involvement in this week's BOA nationals MAY be impacted. This is a step that we absolutely DO NOT wish to take. Nobody wants to jeopardize any child's involvement in this great week after all the hard work they've put in.

To help avert any unnecessary actions this week, I have conferred with the other Executive Board members today and we have agreed to reach out personally over the next 24 hours to the members with large outstanding balances in the hopes that an accord can be reached with regard to a payment agreement. This is approximately 24 of the 80 members with outstanding balances. Any agreements reached will be put in writing.

FURTHER, ANY OF THESE ACCOUNTS, THAT ARE NOT PAID IN FULL BY WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH, OR WHO HAVE NOT COMMUNICATED WITH US AND REACHED AGREEMENT ON A PAYMENT PLAN WILL BE TURNED OVER TO A COLLECTION AGENCY.

When this happens, additional charges will be immediately assessed to the account to cover the costs of collections. Failing this effort, the final step will be to launch a small claims action.

Folks, this is truly a painful article to write. I am sensitive to the personal situations that many of you have acknowledged. We want to be accommodating, but within reason. The main thing is that YOU COMMUNICATE with us. We want to be able to work with everyone, yet be fair.

So, how do you keep your account from going to collections?:
a) Pay down your balance by November 8th. I will have a table set up on Tuesday at the booster meeting to receive payments. I will also have a table set up on Wednesday afternoon prior to departure for Indianapolis.
b) Respond to me prior to November 8th with a payment plan regarding your outstanding balance. It will be reviewed and, if approved, put in writing.

To conclude, we are personally reaching out to only the large account balance owners. With regard to the others, I am hoping you take action from this notice to review your statement and pay down your balance or call me with your intentions regarding a plan.

Thank you very much!
Scott R.

Member Account Balance Update
In my quest to keep the Booster organization informed on where we're at with collections, I have an update for you. We currently have 87 member accounts that have a balance owing to the organization. Collectively the total outstanding balance is $43,000. Statements were sent earlier this week. Some of you have contacted me with questions and I appreciate that. Keep your questions coming! If you've recently sent in a payment that wasn't reflected on your statement, please send me an email to Scott R. and let me know when you sent your payment and the amount. I will check into it. Payments are usually posted quickly once received. If your statement shows a balance owing, please send in your payment. If convenient for you, I will be at the yellow PCMB truck Saturday morning before practice if you'd like to drop off your payment in person. I'll also be happy to take any statement questions at that time, too. Thanks very much!

Scott

A special thank you to all the moms who came out on Wednesday night to help with flags. I appreciate all your team work. I'll put the finishing touches on them this weekend and they'll be ready for Nationals.

THE NEGLECTED MUSE
There is a timely article in the Fall 2006 issue of The American Educator entitled "The neglected muse: Why music is an essential liberal art". The article was written by Peter Kalkavage, a music educator from St. John's College in Annapolis, MD. It's an interesting article - perhaps perfect reading for the drive to Indianapolis next week. Thanks to Tony V, you can download a pdf version from the Marching Band web site.

MARCHING BAND DVDs and 'DRIVE TIME 2006' AUDIO CD
You can still order and/or pick up DVDs of PCMB 2006 performances. NO, there is no DVD from states, but there are DVDs from all other shows. You can still pick up copies of the audio CD 'Drive Time 2006'; this is a compilation of highlights from Marching Band, 'Day Band', Orchestra and small ensemble pieces from the past two years. Of course, it features two audio performances of "The Passion Within" (Community Show and Woodhaven). Over 70 minutes of great PCMB/PCEP music! Listen to this CD four times through, tap your heels together three times and say 'there's no place like Nationals', and you will be in Indianapolis before you know it. I'll be at Scrip this Thursday and at the Booster meeting next Tuesday.

Rancoats and Coffee

PCMB Marcher Rain Coats
A soggy (but warm) thanks to those of you who volunteered to take home damp clumps of PCMB rain coats on Saturday night. The coats hadn't been used since 2003, so many (most?) aren't too aware of them. They really help keep the kids - and uniforms - relatively dry while loading and traveling. If you have a set hanging in your basement/garage/laundry room. . . please make sure they are bone dry; then fold them up with the size tag visible. The plastic bins that store them are currently in the "little band room." You can bring them back when convenient this week. Please note that the bins have sizes on the outside.

Thanks so much - and a particular thanks to the crew who took the time to help retrieve and return the coats.

REMINDER?

All gourmet coffee fundraiser forms and checks or cash MUST be turned in at scrip this Thursday night November 2.

The coffee will be delivered to you at scrip on Thursday, November 16.

They sell fast at work as a gift for the holidays!

This is a great quick fundraiser. You will receive $6.75 for your band account for each $20 box of gourmet coffee that you sell.

?THANK YOU? ISN?T ENOUGH
Telling each of you that worked at Ford Field Saturday "Thank You" simply isn't enough.... but it's really all we have. We can't thank you all enough for your hard work. This year was a huge challenge for all of us. Not only was that challenge met, but all expectations were exceeded. It is a real honor to be associated with the hardest working group of people around. The show went exactly as planned, to the minute. It couldn't have been done without each and every one of you. We are truly grateful to all of you.

Thank you very much.

MORE ACCOLADES
Chris H. received this email. We wanted to share it with all of you.

Hi Chris,

Thanks for taking the time to look me up and say hello at Ford Field. It was a pleasure to meet you and some of your fellow parent/workers that were working the show. From my perspective all appeared to move along flawlessly. You and your group of dedicated parents pulled off a fine show in some difficult and somewhat restrictive conditions. Please pass along my thanks to all involved and thanks again to you for keeping me in the loop.

HELP NEEDED WITH FLAGS
We need helpers on Wednesday at 6 pm to do some more work on our 16 flags. We'll plan on meeting in Room 401 if it's available. We need to sew sleeves on & hem all the flags. So, if you're a sewer, please bring your machine and black thread. I also need non-sewers to cut pattern pieces, pin, trim out flags, and frey check. If you have long fabric shears, please bring them. We have a deadline of next Tuesday, so any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all of you who have made time in their schedules to get these 16 flags done for Nationals.

Update on Member Accounts

A week ago, a fanout was distributed that revealed a fairly sizable number of member accounts who still had a balance owing to the PCMB organization for their commitment fees. While I am pleased to report that there have been several who've responded with payments to their account, there still exist approximately 100 accounts with outstanding balances that, in total, approach nearly $48,000. I have reached out to many of you personally over the past several days to open a dialogue regarding this urgent matter. To those who have responded, I thank you. To those who haven't, please do so as soon as possible. We have a number of obligations to honor before and immediately after nationals. It is very important that all outstanding accounts are addressed. Please contact me if you have any questions regarding your statements or your account balances.

Thank you,

COLOR GUARD FLAGS
A special thank you to all the moms who came out last week and helped cut, pin, and sew flags for us. I appreciate all your team work to get so much done in an evening.

If you still have flags at home, could you please return them to the school as soon as possible, regardless if you are done sewing them or not. We are running into a deadline of just one week to get them finished for Jennifer to take to Nationals.

The most critical part - once the flags are returned, there is still a lot of work to be done on them to have them ready to show. We need sleeves cut and sewn on, the backs trimmed out, and all of them hemmed and frey checked. We could use lots of non-sewing moms as well.

This week will be difficult from a scheduling standpoint, as Tuesday is Halloween and Thursday is a work night for the Guard moms to get ready for Nationals. Please try to keep some evenings free, and
I will send a fan out whenever we can squeeze some work time in to get all of this done. I really appreciate how everyone has come together to work on this last set of flags.

Over the next week, the Guard will be learning an entire set to do at the end of our program using the new flags. I'm sure it will be spectacular!

COFFEE FUNDRAISER
The Coffee fundraiser order information is now posted on the website. The last day to order is next Thursday Nov 2 at scrip.

A few tips when ordering:

1) This is a super quick and easy fundraiser!!! $6.75 will be put into your band acct for every $20 box of coffee ordered. Take the forms to work and you will get lots of orders because $20 is a tremendous price for 10 pots of gourmet coffee.

2) The amount is higher than the $6 listed on the paper forms due to the decreased cost of the boxes.

3) The last day to order is the next scrip night ---Thursday Nov 2. Delivery will be Nov 16 at scrip.

4) Drop off your order forms and one check made out to PCMB for the entire order to the table at scrip on Thursday nights.

5) If you do not want to select the types of coffee, just complete the Coffee.doc form and list the number of sets you wish to order. We will select a variety of coffees for you.

6) If you want to select the types of coffee, fill out one excel spreadsheet called CoffeeOrderForm.xls FOR EACH SET YOU ORDER. Make sure to enter your name and contact info on the left side. For you to keep track of different orders -- just record the name of the person you took the order from in the "Deliver to" box. Staple or clip orders together with the check.

Lunch Clarification for Tomorrow

There have been a few questions about lunch for the kids tomorrow. Here is a little clarification:

Students should pack a lunch. They should plan on eating it early in the 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon Preparation Block BEFORE putting on their uniforms.

Students should not plan on eating anything more than a snack on the bus... some drivers do not allow any food to be eaten on the bus at all.

Please make sure your student has a substantial lunch. What they eat must last them through the entire competition.

I have posted the schedule one more time for your reference:

Prop/Pit Equipment Help and Final States Schedule

Help at States with Getting Props out of the Tunnel

To those parents that will help with props after the performance please see procedure for entering the tunnel. At the field end of the tunnel there will be members of the crew to meet you and help with flow out of the tunnel and direct you to the truck, whatever county it will be in. The kids and I thank you for your help in this matter.

- Tom

As soon as our performance is complete you need to go out Gate "A". If you purchased a ticket you need to get your hand stamped by a Ford Field worker at the door. You can re-enter the stadium with your ticket stub and a hand stamp. If you are working the contest you will be able to re-enter the stadium through the Participants Only entrance at Gate "A". At your left will be the corner of Beacon and Brush. Immediately around that corner is the street entrance to the tunnel. Andy Olexsey will located here. You need to pick up a Field Pass button at the top of the tunnel. There will be a box of them at the entrance to the tunnel. Put on the Field Button and walk down to the end of the tunnel, near the field entrance. You can now get all of the props and go back up the tunnel. The props may be in the auxiliary tunnel by the time you arrive. There will be! somebo dy down there to direct you. You must return your Field Pass buttons to the box at the top of the tunnel as you are leaving. You can now go directly to the truck - wherever that is. This should get all of our students out of the prop business after performance.

Final States Update Posted on Web Site

The final updates for all States workers is available at our web site. Please check the schedule to verify your working times. If possible, please print the materials and bring them with you. Limited copies will be available at the stadium. Remember, parking is $6.00 only until 11:00 a.m., then it will go up to $20.00.

Once again, we can't thank you all enough for volunteering for this event. This will redefine the word "exciting".

Medical Info, Staff Gifts and Storybooks

MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR NATIONALS

If there are any changes in your child’s medical information or medication, please get that to me prior to the departure for Indianapolis. To prepare for our trip to Nationals, I will be using the same information that was provided on the Medical Release forms that were filled out in June. It is imperative that you contact me if there have been any changes. A reminder that just like Band Camp, the children ARE NOT TO HAVE ANY MEDICATION IN THEIR POSSESSION—prescription or over the counter—while at Nationals, with the exception of: inhalers for asthma, EPI-PENS, insulin pumps, and acne creams. Remind your child to keep the inhalers and EPI-PENS with them at all times! The nurses will have Tylenol, Motrin, cold medicine, Benadryl, etc. with us—you do not need to send this unless they take it daily or you prefer them to take a specific brand.

We probably don’t need 14 pairs of socks for this trip, but make sure the kids bring plenty! It is November, they will be practicing outside, and it is cold and wet. Dress for the weather, and don’t forget the hats and gloves!

I will be collecting medications for the trip before and after the November 7th Booster Meeting. Please make every effort to bring it that night. If that is not possible, please bring it to school starting at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, November 8th prior to departure. Make sure that the medications are in their original container and that the dosage is clearly marked. Please put the containers in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it. If you should have any questions, please call or email me ASAP.

Thank you!
Vickie R.

DONATIONS FOR STAFF GIFTS
If you haven't already... Please consider making a donation for STAFF GIFTS (and President and VP) so we can show our appreciation to them at the Marching Band Banquet in November.

Scrip will be purchased for approx. 22 people… so thank you for your generosity!

You can write a check and send it in the mail to me, give me a check or cash when you see me around or when I send the envelope around again at the next Booster meeting.

Thank you!
Jeanne S.

STORYBOOKS
A few reminders and updates regarding the 2006 Passion Within StoryBooks--

1. Lorraine Paffenroth will be available to take your orders at the Scrip Tables Thursday, 10/26 and 11/2 and at the Booster Meeting on Tuesday, 11/7 (don't forget to Vote!!) The Booster Meeting will be the last opportunity to order for Christmas delivery. Orders can be placed for 12 months after publication, however.
2. You can order your copies of StoryBooks via email by contacting Lorraine at lpaffenroth@yahoo.com. Visa, MC, Discover, AMEX accepted.
3. Continue to take pictures. Photos posted on the PCMB website will be used to complete our 2006 StoryBook. We particularly need lots of candid shots, section shots, groups of students and staff. If you use film, we can use your photos!! When you have your prints developed, ask for a copy on CD and get that to Lorraine or Tony Vink.
4. Remember to think of the 2006 StoryBook as a "yearbook" of this year's band season. It will feature a variety of candid shots of as many students as possible from the entire band season, beginning with the Liberty Fest parade in June 2005.
5. YOU can make your own personalized StoryBook! Visit http://caspedia.cachefly.net/storybookcreator/download.htm to download the free software. Visit www.CMphotocenter.com and join using code 16382963 to order your published StoryBook. Some have asked about the possibility of creating books from previous seasons. Use the free software download to design all sorts of books for all sorts of occasions!
6. Many of you have been asking about photo storage and preservation. Please contact Lorraine directly for personal assistance with any of your photo needs.

IMPORTANT UPDATES: States Dismissal & Departure, Parking and Public Relations Information

STUDENT DISMISSAL AND DEPARTURE FROM STATES
In case you were not at last night's Booster meeting, here is the plan for releasing the students following States:

Mr. Whitlock and the Staff have decided that the Band will leave Ford Field immediately following the Flight I award ceremony and will return to Plymouth HS where the students will be dismissed.

If you are working States and wish to have your children remain at Ford Field, please send a note to either Mr. Whitlock or Ginger Bitter as soon as possible. No one will be dismissed at Ford Field without a note.

All students must be accounted for before the busses leave Ford Field.

A detailed itinerary will be released in a day or so.

***** IMPORTANT FORD FIELD PARKING UPDATE *****
This is being distributed to every band competing at Ford Field Saturday. The bottom line is if you want $6.00 parking you must be in the Ford Field Parking Deck by 11:00 a.m. Since most of us will be there long before that hopefully it won't affect too many people. Please remember that all of the decisions being made at this point are being done by Ford Field and accounting for the possibility of a World Series game. They have also chosen to close Brush Street from Beacon to Montcalm to all through traffic. This is to ensure the safety of our students and clear the area of all traffic for the pit crews. This is a good thing.

From MCBA:

If there is a GAME SIX of the WORLD SERIES:

PARKING UPDATE

The FORD FIELD PARKING RAMP will be $6.00 from 7:00 AM & 11:00 AM.
(The Ford Field Parking Ramp is located on St. Antoine St).

Sometime between 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM the posted rate will be $20.00

Ford Field says that they cannot differentiate between the baseball crowd and the band crowd, in terms of who is trying to gain admittance, and if the posted rate remained $6.00, at some time around 11:00 AM the baseball crowd would fill it up almost immediately.

There are two more Parking Lots that will have $6.00 parking from 7:00 AM to around 1:00 PM. Parking Lots 4 and 5 located on Montcalm (next to the Ford Field Parking Ramp). Around 1:00 PM both of those lots will be posted at $20.00.

Parking Lots 4 and 5 ARE NOT owned and operated by Ford Field - they are controlled by Comerica Park. The $6.00 posting is a favor to Ford Field.

* * * * * * * * * * *

The people at Ford Field recommend that anyone arriving after 11:00 AM park down by Greektown, Cobo Hall, Joe Louis Arena, Hart Plaza, where parking will be less expensive and then take THE PEOPLE MOVER over to Ford Field. (50 cents a ride)

Your parents and friends could make this a special event, and eat at Greektown and then take THE PEOPLE MOVER to Ford Field.

For a good map of parking in the area, go to:

www.fordfield.com

click on YOUR GUIDE TO FORD FIELD, then click on PARKING, (This map has THE PEOPLE MOVER ROUTE laid over the top of it).

* * * * * * * * * * *

Brush St. will be CLOSED TO TRAFFIC from Beacon to Montcalm.

Montcalm will have only a little traffic on it.

* * * * * * * * * * *

ACTION REQUESTED: Member Accounts

Member Accounts Still Owing

We currently have 118 member accounts that have balances owing to the booster organization. In fact, the outstanding amounts from these accounts have an accumulated balance of $60,083. Most of the outstanding accounts have small, manageable balances. However, there are 14 accounts whose balances are over $1,000! We are running into cash-short situations and, unless we begin to receive payments from the 118 members in question, we run the risk of having to compromise on many things. The Executive Board has already informed the staff and crew that spending is frozen without prior approval. If this does not change, it could impact the completion of the final stages of our show. This could also affect our ability to cover costs for nationals in just three weeks.

This is very critical and I urge you to contact me if you have any questions regarding your statement balance @ 734.634.3088. Also, although I will not be at this Tuesday's booster meeting due to a business trip, you can turn in a payment to Wayne T., Mark S. or Dennis C. If we can get payment in on these accounts, then we'll be in much better financial shape to close out the year. I have spoken to some of you already. For the rest, please make your payment or contact me to discuss immediate arrangements.

Thank you,
Scott R.

Thanks to all of you who participated in this fundraiser. We sold 204 items! Each member account will earn $4.50 per item sold. Of coarse the 75/25 split will apply. The items will be on Thursday, 10/26 after 5:00pm. I have already had offers of distribution help when the items arrive, but could always use more. Just come that day or let me know if you can help. Thanks again for a great sale! We will do it again in the Spring. Kelly S.

PHOTOS
I am working on another date to finish up the photos with K&R Media. I will let you know soon when that will be. I have heard from several of you that have gotten photos taken, that you have not heard from the photographer for photo review or even gotten your photos ordered. When I speak with him to schedule the next photo date, I will inquire on your behalf. I am planning on him coming to our band banquet in November, so your photos can be reviewed them for ordering or he can show what he has on film at that time. I'll report back as soon as I know more. Kelly S.

EMERGENCY HELP FOR FLAGS NEEDED!
We will need to cut and pin 16 flags on Tuesday evening. We have found a lady to help with the sewing but we will need to have the flags ready for sewing.

We will meet in the large band room at 6:00 p.m. We will then know what room we will be working in. THE MORE HELP WE GET THE FASTER THIS TASK WILL BE! Thank You.

Contact Susan A or Cathy B if you can help.

GUARD PARENTS PLEASE NOTE
The “goodie bucket” is ready for treats! We now have a purple bucket with a black lid labeled "Goodie Bucket" on the shelf in the guard room which is to be used to provide treats for our girls on the bus. Please consider picking up some items next time you are at the grocery store - they should be individually packaged non-chocolate (nothing that would get on the costumes) items. You may give them to your daughter or drop them off when you pick her up - if the bucket gets full, please contact Susan A so we can store the goodies somewhere else until Saturday. They will be very appreciative!

Thank you !!!

DVD & CD NEWS
Three announcements regarding DVDs and CDs:

1. Labels are back ! Lynn Blythe found a 300 pack of disc labels, so we will have labeled DVDs for the rest of the season. Thanks, Lynn !

2. DVD Updates. DVDs from Regionals and GLI (with labels) are available at Scrip beginning October 19. DVDs from the Community Show likely will be available next week at Scrip.

3. New Product: "PCEP - Drive Time 2006". For those who are planning road trips in near future, I've prepared an audio CD to help keep you company on the trip. This audio CD includes PCMB show music and other features from 2004-2006 (including both Regionals and Woodhaven from 2006), a handful of small ensemble pieces by PCEP players (from senior recitals, etc.), and some recent full ensemble performances by the PCEP Orchestra, Wind Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble. Nearly 80 minutes of PCEP music to enjoy. For the freshman parents, be prepared to be blown away by what these kids can do.

"PCEP - Drive Time 2006" is a no frills product - no paper label, paper disc sleeve - designed for maximum copying at minimum effort and maximum return to the band program. If you don't think it's worth $5, you can have it for free. The CDs should be available starting next week at Scrip - in time for the drive to Ford Field.

Cheers,
Randy

PCMB Fanout (10/17/06) Community Performance & Storybooks

COMMUNITY PERFORMANCE THIS SATURDAY
At 2:00 p.m. this Saturday, the Band will give a Community Performance at the Varsity Stadium. The occasion is the dedication of the “PCMB Chuckwagon”, built with funds donated by the Canton Community Foundation.

As many of you know, the Boosters prepare all of the meals our kids eat while they’re on the road, especially at Nationals. The chuckwagon is a fully-equipped, mobile kitchen designed to make that task easier.

The Chuckwagon will also serve the community as a disaster-relief kitchen for the Canton Community should the need ever arise. It will also be available for other non-profit groups to rent when the Band is not using it.

At 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, members of the Canton Community Foundation, School Administration and School Board are invited to a private luncheon of food prepared in the Chuckwagon. The Community Performance follows at 2:00.

The Community Performance is open to the public and is free of charge. Please spread the word to everyone you know to come out and cheer on our kids!

If you would like to help prepare and serve food to our guests on Saturday, please contact Dennis Carnevale at denniscar@aol.com.

GLI THANK YOU ! !
A HUGE “thank you” to everyone who helped pull off one of the largest GLI events ever. To the hundreds of volunteers who worked thousands of hours… THANK YOU ! ! This is truly a team effort. Watch for our article in the November Newsletter recapping the event and giving you some results.

Suzanne & Karl

FLASHLIGHT FUNDRAISER FACTS
A big thank you to all of the parents who have purchased the Roto-Glow flashlights. So far we have sold 76 flashlights and raised $552.00 in profits. Unfortunately, we only sold two flashlights during the whole day at GLI. That means we have a long way to go.

In 1 hour on Sunday evening my son called a few relatives and went to a few close neighbors and ended up selling 5 flashlights. If he can do it, you can too! The funds raised are going to pay for a four-wheeler. You may have already seen it on the field at GLI… The band needed it right away and now we need to pay for it. We have until October 26 to sell 500 so that we don't have to pay for shipping back the unsold units. Just 3 to 4 flashlights per family would sell us out and raise $3,500.00. Thanks again for your support.

Kimberly E

To ALL PCMB Boosters:
Please note the following regarding DVDs from recent PCMB performances:

1. Please write checks to Randy C; I will then write out a single check payable to PCMB and send it to Wayne and Lisa. Actually, I'd prefer cash, but checks will still be OK. Just make them payable to me. Thanks.

2. Disc Labels are becoming scarce. Until I find either Maxell or Memorex labels (or move to a THIRD label-making software), DVDs will come without printed labels. This might actually be a good thing for individuals who have had problems getting the DVDs to play. It certainly nets more money for the Scholarship Fund.

3. DVDs from Regionals. I have lots of DVDs (without labels) from Regionals that can be picked up at Scrip or a Booster Meeting.

4. DVDs from GLI. I am preparing to make DVDs from GLI. I hope to have copies at Scrip this Thursday.

5. Scholarship Contributions to Date. The money you pay for DVDs and CDs supports our kids. Proceeds from DVD and CD sales have generated slightly more than $800 to the PCMB Scholarship Fund since January 2006.

Thanks a bunch for your time. Go Band!

Cheers,
Randy

ROOM SHARING AT NATIONALS?
I am interested in sharing a hotel room with any female band parent for Nationals - I have a room reserved at the Hilton (near the Stadium) for 3 nites (Thu/Fri/Sat) with room to share if you want to reduce your expenses. You may contact Erin A.

WHAT’S FOR DINNER?? MARCO’S PIZZA!!
Don’t forget to order all of your meals from Marco’s Pizza this week. From Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., Marco’s will donate a portion of the proceeds to the Boosters.

Marco’s is located on Canton Center at Hancock, behind Family Video.

EVERYTHING YOU WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT STATES AND FORD FIELD…

Yes, we are having the State Championships. Yes, they are Saturday, October 28. Yes, they are at Ford Field. Even though game six of the World Series may be played that night, the show must go on!!! There is no truth to the rumor that this show will be moved, or cancelled.

On Tuesday, October 17th, at 7:00p.m. there is a meeting in the Band Room. All of your questions about States will be answered at that time. We will try to keep it as brief as possible. We would like to see you all there.

HANDS UP FOR WHITE GLOVES?
In an ideal world (??) each marcher who wears white gloves on the field would have:

a) Kept all their gloves spotless and glowing
b) Never misplaced any; and
c) Ordered enough pairs to get them through Grand Nationals . . .

However, this being the real world - please ask your marcher(s) if they need to order another pair of gloves so that they look fresh for Indy. If he/she does need another pair, please e-mail Helen R. to place an order that will be charged to your account ($5/pair). We have a list of the size/style (grip or no grip) that each marcher ordered. We will use that data, unless you specify in your order that your marcher wishes to change that.

With a wave of the gloved hand . . .
The Uniform Magicians

COOKIE DOUGH REMINDER
The Deadline for submitting orders for the cookie dough fundraiser is Wednesday, October 18th. I will up at Plymouth HS at the end of the practice that day to collect orders. I have to call in the cookie order earlier then the scrip time on Thursday, so that is why I have set the October 18th date. If you cannot get me your order in person on that date, please submit me your order via the net or call me, by: 4pm on Thursday, October, 19. I will be at scrip to receive the hard copy of the order, but I need to call in the order earlier in the day. You can then settle up the order cost at scrip that night too.

GARBAGE BAGS
Right now I am out of Black garbage bags. The company we get them from is also out at their warehouse, so it will be a couple of weeks until I have more. We have a small supply of clear on hand, but that is all. One of our members has purchased the black bags at the school; so if they are there, please do not take them! Kelly S.

We still have openings in concessions for:

Stands – selling candy, hot chocolate etc…
(3) people need for the 11:00 – 3:00 shift.

Currently we have only one Booster parent working the stands from 2:30-6:30, although we may have some National Honor Society kids help during this time we need at least (3) parents. If someone is willing to switch from the tent concessions and work in the stands that would be GREAT!

Kitchen – Help cook food, pretzels, hot chocolate, Cider, etc…
(1) person 6:00-10:00

Stocker – You get to drive a golf cart and deliver food from the Kitchen and Storeroom to the Large, Small and Tent concessions as needed.
(1) person needed for 6:00 – 10:00

Pizza Runner – Drive to Domino’s pizza on Sheldon and Cherry Hill to pick up pizzas
(2) people needed for 11:00 – 3:00 and 6:00 – 10:00

The Spot Buy for Hillers has changed. We will no longer have the gift certificates. Instead, Hillers will now be using a rechargeable card!

They will be available on Thursday night at the scrip/spot buy table. There is no cost and they are not preloaded with any funds. Each family can sign out a card and load them once they get to Hillers. We will receive a report from Hillers once a month and log the percentages earned direct to the marchers account.

NATIONALS CHAPERONES
Want to spend time with your kids at Grand Nationals? We need bus chaperones, sleeper chaperones, and LOTS of food servers. This is a great way to see what goes on behind the scenes. And if you sign up for sleeping assignment, you save the cost of a hotel! Please consider helping us. Look on the website http://www.pcmb.net/MP/Member.htm to fill in your spot on the sign-up sheet.

Details will follow (timing, expectations, etc.) as you sign up for specific duties. If you have questions, please contact Ginger B.

A NOTE FROM BOA ABOUT REGIONAL T-SHIRTS
BOA Ypsilanti Regional Tees are still available!

We realize that our souvenir booth ran out of T-shirts on Saturday, and some parents and boosters may not have been able to purchase a Regional Shirt. They are now available online for purchase.

For a direct link, visit:
http://www.bands.org/Public/TicketMerchandise/Detail.asp?ProductID=422

These shirts sell for $17, the same price as on-site. Be sure to choose the Ypsilanti version, which has a list of all Ypsilanti Regional participating bands on the back.

Thanks again for your support of BOA!

SENIOR PICs FOR THE BAND BANQUET
Please upload one or two “fun” shots of your seniors to the PCMB PhotoShare. We need some special photos of our Seniors to be shown at this year’s band banquet. There is a directory started for baby pics and for general fun shots. Fun shots can be anything you like, marching or not. Perhaps something that would inspire a good caption…

Don’t make a new directory for these, just add your photos to what is there. Also please remember to name the file with your marchers name so we know who they are. For example, “EddieMurphy.jpg”.

Thank you

STATEMENT CHARGE AND NEW EMAIL ADDRESS TO SEND YOUR QUESTIONS
Last Friday, a notice was sent out to direct your statement questions to me and, since then, I've received a huge number of responses that contain a question regarding the $15 charge to accounts on September 13th. This charge was assessed to each account (per child) to help defray the costs of the car wash vendor we used during our August fundraising event. Also, I'd like to change the email address to which you can send your inquiries. If you have already sent me your question, please DON'T resend it to this new email address. I am working on responding to inquiries today. Thanks very much.

Scott R.

REGIONALS THANK YOUS
A big “Thank You” to everyone who helped make yesterday's BOA event successful including the Equipment Crew, the Feeding Crew, the Bus Chaperones, the Uniform Magicians, the Parents who helped unload the trucks after midnight and anyone else who I might have missed. Your efforts and giving of your time are what make our Boosters great!

And of course, a giant, king-size, heaping helping of THANKS and CONGRATULATIONS to the STAFF and our STUDENTS for an outstanding outcome to Regionals. We are very proud of you!

LOOKING FORWARD TO GLI
You will be hearing more about GLI in the next couple days, but here’s one to start out the week: When you are arriving to work your shift next Saturday, please remember to park your cars further out in the parking lot. With 30 bands scheduled to appear, we will need every parking space possible to accommodate our guests. Thanks for your cooperation.

BOOSTER MEETING REMINDER
Don’t forget the Booster meeting coming up this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Band Room.

LAST CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS
If you have not already volunteered for States or GLI, you will have another chance at the Booster meeting. We put a dent in the number of shifts to fill since the last meeting, but there are still openings. Please come to Tuesday’s meeting ready to volunteer. Spouses: It’s OK to volunteer your “other half” if they don’t show up to the Booster meeting!

SHOUT OUT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
At GLI this year, we are starting what we hope will be a great moneymaker, but we need your help!

We have a couple people who have already volunteered, but we could use more, especially in the evening hours from 6 to 9 p.m. Please contact Dennis C.

SCRIP UPDATE
Please make a note that the Applebees denomination has change to $25.

BAND GUIDES FOR GLI
Shelley and Gerry O. are in need of 2 additional band guides as follows:

PCMB Fanout (10/4/06): GUARD UPDATE, SHOW PINS & GLI GATE

GUARD PARENT UPDATE
A BIG THANK YOU to Jennifer for personally ordering and picking up all the makeup our girls will be needing for this year's performances. If you are a freshman parent, this was really hard to find last year and it is a huge help to us (parents) that she did this for us. She was very conscientious about price and we all would have paid as much or possibly a lot more for this if we went to get it ourselves.

Your daughters have been given an itemized list of what they owe. Please get your payment to Jennifer by Friday, October 6. You can send it in with your child or give it to one of us (Susan or Cathy) or a senior guard girl.

Thank you for supporting our girls - they are looking great out there! Wait 'til you see the band Saturday - it is a treat to see all their hard work come together - wear your PCMB stuff and have a GREAT time!

Cathy and Susan

2006 SHOW PINS
Don’t forget to purchase your 2006 Show Pin! I will be at SCRIP on Thursday and at the Booster Meeting on Tuesday night to take your orders. The cost is $5.00, and we are accepting CASH, or checks payable to CASH. Over half of the pins available for sale have already been spoken for, so don’t miss out!

THE GATE IS GREAT
I am looking for a "few more good men and women" to fill the openings for Show Gate at GLI!!!

This is a great and easy position where you get to see each and every Marcher just before they perform! The job is simply welcoming the band who is "on deck" for performance!

This may entail opening/closing a gate or simply making sure that only the performers are entering! We are on the back side of the field, but right in the middle of all the action!

I need 2 more for the 1st shift (11 am -3 pm) and 3 for the 3rd shift (6-11 pm)...if you work the last shift you will see our kids right before they perform and still make it to the spectator side for the performance!

PCMB Fanout (10/2/06): TICKETS & FLAGS

GLI—TICKETS/CHECK-IN VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!
We are still looking for a few good people to fill some volunteer holes at the TICKET/CHECK-IN area at GLI. We currently have the following needs:

1 volunteer for 11:00 AM—3:00 PM
1 volunteer for 2:30 PM—6:30 PM
3 volunteers for 6:00 PM—10:00 PM

This is a FUN area to work. While being wonderful PCMB ambassadors, you get to meet a lot of great people coming through the gate! Don’t shy away from signing up for the late shift because EVERYONE will see our kids perform!!!!!!!

Thank you!

Vickie and Scott R.

SEWING UPDATE
It looks like the guard will be able to use some show flags at the Regional Competition. A lot was accomplished on Saturday morning. In addition to some familiar faces Cathy B., Carol Z., and Lisa C. worked. Denise P. did some sewing at home. A big thank you to all of the people who have helped out.

TONIGHT’S FOOTBALL GAME
The Salem Football Game has started late this evening. Because of this, the students will probably not be done until at least 9:30 tonight.

PSAT TESTING
For the past week, Mr. Whitlock has been meeting informally with Juniors who wish to take the PSAT. For those who have not yet met with him, here is the information:

The Plymouth HS Counseling Staff has made arrangements for Band Members and Athletes to take the test early on Saturday, October 21st. Students should sign up for the Plymouth HS testing site. They will arrive at 6:45 a.m. for a 7:00 a.m. start time. At the end of the test, students should report for rehearsal as usual.

APPLE PICKING TOMORROW
Plymouth Orchard need pickers Saturday, September 30th--She didn't say how many so just show up (adults only). They do not want to start picking before 9:00 a.m. and if it rains there will be no picking. Mary also said that they may want some pickers Sunday. If you want to pick Sunday, give me a call so I can let her know how many boxes to put out.

PHOTOS
Just a reminder that on Oct. 2nd we will for sure have the photographer here. He will be starting with the color guard @ 2:45pm. The plan is to try and get band members after the guard finishes up, but with the intensive practices going on, we may have to just wait to start band members until 5:45pm. (this is at Mr. Whitlock's discretion). I am asking that while we have him here, that you have your student stay and get their photos done after practice We can go as late as it takes to photograph all the kids for the composite shots and of coarse your personal photos as well. Their uniforms will of coarse will be here,so getting them in the jackets will be no problem. This may not be the case if you don't get them done on the 2nd. Also, I have had questions about photos that were taken and how the photographer was supposed to email your photo shots for approval. Here is his contact info. Orders@krmediaonline.com. Kelly S.

COOKIE DOUGH / POPCORN FUNDRAISER
We are getting this delicious fundraiser underway. For our new members, this was a fundraiser we did in the spring as a general fundraiser. I will have forms available starting Friday, Sept. 29 and if coarse at photos Oct. 2nd, As well as at scrip nights. We will sell products Now thru Thursday, Oct. 19. PCMB Fanout (9/27/06): URGENT ACTION REQUIRED

URGENT ATTENTION REQUIRED
We must turn in all of the Ford Field waiver forms very soon. Below is a list of all of the student forms that are needed. There are two lists: 1.) Students that have not turned in any waiver form at all, and 2.) Students who have incomplete waiver forms that must be completed. Joe Reno will be at Scrip this Thursday so that you can take care of this urgent need. Students without completed waiver forms will not be allowed on Ford Field for the State Championship contest.

THE NEW PHONE BOOK IS HERE!! THE NEW PHONE BOOK IS HERE!!
Please pick up your copy of the 2006 PCEP Marching Band Directory at Scrip this Thursday. A copy has been reserved for you. Any directories not claimed will be released to those that have requested a second copy.

SHOW SHIRTS
This year's "The Passion Within" show shirt is ready for orders. The design for the front of the shirt (thank you Charlie S.!) is on the home page of the web site. For new families: each year there is a new commemorative show shirt designed. It has an image about the show on the front, and a listing of the year's competitions on the back. You have the option of purchasing short or long sleeve t-shirts; a crew neck sweatshirt or a "hoody" sweatshirt. The order will be charged to your account.

The Monogram Factory is working with us to do a very speedy turn around on an initial set of orders. I took some orders last night at the booster meeting and I will be present at scrip night Thursday. There will be an order form placed on the web site by our web master, Tony. Nancy G. is entering these orders right away and will place on order on Friday with the Monogram Factory. They will get this order back to us by next Thursday (October 5) - in time for Regionals!

Not ready for a decision yet? Not to worry - I'll be placing later orders, so this won't be your only opportunity.

2006 SHOW PINS
The design for the 2006 PCMB SHOW PIN has been completed - and I will start taking orders at the Booster Meeting tomorrow night. I will also be at SCRIP on Thursdays taking orders. The pins are $5.00 each and payment must be made at the time your order is placed. Delivery will take place prior to Nationals—I will send a fanout when they arrive to let you know when and where to pick them up.

A paper copy of the 2006 design will be available for you to admire, as well as a few pins from the past couple of years. If you don’t know what a Show Pin is, ask any of the veteran parents at the meeting or give me a call! Only 300 pins will be available to purchase, so make sure that you order early so that you don’t miss out. If you never bought a pin last year, or maybe misplaced yours, I do have a few 2005 pins still available.

Vickie R.

SEWING UPDATE
There will be sewing on Saturday morning during the band practice from about 9 AM until the end of the practice - about noon. Right now it looks like it will be in the small band room. There will be several non-sewing tasks to be done as well as some sewing to be done.

FUNDRAISER FACTS AT BOOSTER MEETING
Anyone interested in learning more about some of our individual fundraisers can learn everything they need to know at tomorrow's Booster Meeting.

Four representatives will be on hand to tell you more about their fundraisers and how you can help contribute to your commitment fees by purchasing their products.

BIG CORRECTION: PCMB Fanout (9/24/06): Weekly eNewsletter

BIG CORRECTION: STATES VOLUNTEERS
I have never been good with math, and here’s a perfect example:

In the fanout I sent earlier I said that Gale & Joe R. had just over 50 jobs filled, but they are still in need of about 20 additional volunteers.

Boy, was I wrong… While the Reno’s do have 50 volunteers, they need to fill over 150 slots so there are 100 openings!

Please look at your calendars prior to attending Tuesday’s Booster meeting and come ready to volunteer.

UNIFORM NOTES
We've had a couple of questions about the member shirt. Each marcher was issued a free 2006 member shirt (ash gray), which was a very kind and generous donation from the Monogram Factory. This t-shirt should come home to be washed after each competition, along with the black socks. When the kids are asked to report in 1/2 uniform in the band room, this means they need to be wearing the 2006 member shirt, charcoal bibs, black socks, black (polished) shoes, long hair pinned up, no jewelry, no nail polish.

Many thanks,
The Uniform Magicians

P.S. Please, please put your students' name on the tag of the member shirt and in their marching shoes (it is amazingly difficult to identify missing owners!). I am currently in possession of an abandoned XL member shirt from Saturday's bus #5 (sax/low brass).

RESULTS FROM WOODHAVEN
Since many parents left the competition before the award ceremony, here are the rankings and scores from the soggy but spirited Flight I competition at Woodhaven yesterday:

1st Place: Plymouth-Canton 78.30 (plus all Captions)
2nd Place: Livonia Stevenson 53.50
3rd Place: Taylor Truman 52.10

STATES TICKET DISCOUNT
There are discount tickets available for the State Championships at Ford Field. Pre-Ordering tickets will save you $2 per ticket.

The order form will be posted to the website shortly. This is great for Grandma, Grandpa, Aunties and Uncles. But for our members there is an even better deal. They get in FREE because they are working to help put on this incredible show. Gale & Joe R. have just over 50 jobs filled, but they are still in need of about 20 additional volunteers. Please contact Joe and Gale to volunteer, or see them at Tuesday’s Booster Meeting.

BOOSTER MEETING REMINDER
There will be a Booster meeting Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Large Band Room. We are now holding two Booster meetings per month through the end of the season.

FLAG SEWING UPDATE
There is an opportunity to help with the flags that does not require any sewing and that can be done at home. There are some flags that need to be fray-checked. For this task you need a flat surface, an old towel to cover the flat surface and somewhere to let them dry. The flags and fray check will be provided. The flags and fray-check can be sent home with your child.

CONEY ISLAND FUNDRAISER
Here’s a reminder that Canton Coney Island will be donating 20% of the food proceeds to the Music Boosters tomorrow night. If you don’t have the flyer your students received, there will be coupons available at the restaurant tomorrow night.

PCMB Fanout (9/19/06) - Homecoming Questions

HOMECOMING QUESTIONS
There have been a number of questions raised recently regarding PCMB Members attending Homecoming.

This year, in order to accommodate rehearsals and competitions, all PCMB Members are invited to attend the Salem Homecoming this year regardless of their home school.

Any band member from any school can buy tickets, but they must be
purchased at Salem. While tickets were for sale in front of the Salem cafeteria during lunch earlier in the year, we now understand that they
are being sold after school for $20. Unfortunately, I don't know where.

If your student has not yet purchased a Homecoming ticket, I urge them to contact the Salem Office as soon as possible to be sure they don't miss out.

PHOTO DATES
Thursday, September 21 & Monday, October 2. We will be getting started at 3:00 PM and go to 7:00PM or so. With Mr. Whitlock's permission, we will start photographing Battery members, Keyboards, then proceed with the smaller sections to the larger groups. We have a lot photos to take on these two dates, but will do our best to move them along swiftly. On the Oct. 2nd date, we will be starting with the Color Guard photos then finishing up with the last of the sections. Again, all members will be having a composite photo taken. Having a professional photo done is voluntary, but I hope many of you can take advantage of this.

UNIFORM REMINDERS
As we are getting our competitions underway and washer parents are starting their washing duties, we have a few reminders for the kids. Please remind them that their plumes are never to be put in their shako boxes. They must be put ba
