With the trip to Indianapolis fast approaching we are in need of 5 volunteers to ride the bus to Indianapolis and back from Indianapolis. The bus will leave on Thursday and return on Sunday. You will not be required to stay at the school with the students, just chaperone for the trip there and back. If you would like to stay with the students that is definetly possible and would be appreciated, but is not a requirement.

If you would like to volunteer or have any questions please email Debbie Creed at dcreed@comcast.net or call me (734)844-8324.

All Band Parents,
JUST A REMINDER that there is still a need for digital images for the calendar and banquet slide-show. Thanks to the parents who have provided images so far!!

To date I have NO GLI pictures, and I have only 3 pictures for the JULY 4TH timeframe (realizing it was a wet day, but pictures of tailgating, or after parade festivities?)

Please remember, as STATES and NATIONALS come up, any digitals of those activities would be greatly appreciated. My deadline for getting the artwork to the vendor is the TUESDAY AFTER NATIONALS, so PLEASE REMEMBER to get the digitals to either myself or my wife Dianne Magnusson.

FYI - Dianne will be at the Booster meeting Oct 19th to collect digital pictures. THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP WITH THESE PROJECTS!!!!!

John M.

================

All positions are now filled!!!!

This is the first time that I can remember that no guilt, whining or hostage taking had to take place on the last booster meeting before the competition. Thank you all.

I hope to have assignments and instructions posted on our website tomorrow (Wednesday).

For all that volunteered as band guides; two pieces of information:
1. I will not have your specific band assignments until Monday, October 25. When I recieve them, I will have them reposted on the web.
2. Report times may vary as we are trying to finalize the schedule and flow. There will no longer be a security check at the top of the ramp, however we have more restrictive rules governing the air lock. These are being studied and it may effect timing by ten minutes either way.

Once again a great big thank you!!!!

Gerry O.

This is a reminder of the final payment, per the Participation Agreement, being due tomorrow, 10/19.

If arrangements have not been made, accounts not paid up tomorrow will jeopardize the student's status in the marching band for the remainder of the year. Please contact John J. if you have questions or concerns.

Thanks!

What a nice job the band did last Saturday given the terrible weather conditions!

In case you have not heard, they received a score of 80.65. This was the best in Flight I and the best overall. And, this is without the guard and the electronics. Both were not part of the show due to the weather. Please give your son or daughter a big pat on the back for toughing it out and doing so well.

John J.

Don't forget tomorrow night's (10/19) Booster Meeting. Same place, same time.

We will go over important information for the rest of the season. We will also identify areas where we still need help to give our sons and daughters the best opportunity to give their best performances at States and Nationals.

Only two positions left. Both are for the 7:30am to noon parking shift.

Did I mention free donuts?

Alright we are down to five (5) volunteer positions to fill. Five brave souls need to search their conscience and put an end to these updates and prevent some pretty annoying whining. There has to be five of you that thought of it or had a little inkling but decided to wait and see. Step forward please – It is your chance to a hero!!!!

Open are:
Two (2) Parking from 7:30am to Noon
One (1) Parking from 11:30am to 3:30pm
Two (2) Inside Warm-Up from 9am to Noon

It is no surprise that parking always goes last. I just can’t figure out whether it is working with Rick Paffenroth or the job itself. Upon request we will have Rick put a bag over his head if it makes things easier.

PLEASE KEEP YOUR INBOX CLEAR – VOLUNTEER NOW!!!!

Candy Sales Cancellation

Regrettably, we are going to have postponed the Candy Sales until later in the year. The issue about not selling peanuts or peanut bi-products (chocolate) has thrown a huge wrench into the system. We are looking at what options we have. But none of them will allow us to get the candy in time for us to sell during our two-week period. We’ll keep you updated.

I still have 10 spots to fill for the MCBA State Championships volunteer workforce on Saturday October 30. You can do your part in shortening our Booster meeting on Tuesday by volunteering now. You can also eliminate any chance of me doing extensive whining (I can really be annoying).

Most of the open spots are for the morning shift. Please be aware that your student will be fully occupied through out the day. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. Traffic is light on Saturdays; you can drive home until our performance if you wish.

I will also have a small TV at my table in the concourse area (Michigan V. Michigan State).

Here is where I need help:

- Four (4) Inside Warm-Up Area – 9:00am to Noon. This is an inside assignment that monitors the band warm-up in the home or visitor locker room. You need only keep the band on time.
- Two (2) Parking – 7:30am to Noon
- Three (3) Parking – 11:30 to 3:30pm. Even though these are outside jobs, carts will be available. If it is cold you can use a heated vehicle. These openings are to cover Flight IV and Flight III bands. These are small bands so traffic should be light.
- One (1) Outside Air Lock – 8:30am to Noon. Even though this is an outside job, volunteers can stay in the inside air lock once the incoming bands are properly aligned to enter the air lock. If you can help please contact me by phone or e-mail.

If you have not volunteered yet please do. If you can take an extra shift – that would be appreciated. There are many of us working from start to finish.

Thanks, Gerry O.

Mr. Whitlock and Mrs. Boerma are in immediate need of clerical help for the National Concert Band Festival Trip.

They are seeking someone with good organizational and communication skills who is able to work with them, a travel planner and/or festival sponsors. The person should be able to commit 1/2 to one day per week initially with 1/2 day per week being more realistic after the initial start up tasks are complete. This commitment will last through March 2005.

If you are interested in filling this need or have questions before you can commit, please contact Mr. Whitlock at 734-674-5002.

If you plan on having your student ride home with you from Jenison on Saturday, October 16, and you did not sign the list at the booster meeting on Tuesday a note is required. Debbie C. will be in the bandroom Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday after practice to collect the notes.

Greetings all,

This is a letter I just received from the Band Director at Marian Catholic High School. I thought it would be appropriate to share with our friends, our parents, and our employers. Have a great weekend and we'll see you at the Band contest this weekend! Marc Whitlock.

Dear PCEP Band Members and Parents:
I am sorry that this letter took so long to get to you. I am sure that you understand the schedule that exists here at the band office since you walk the same walk as us at Marian. As I am sure it is with you, we are working feverishly to finish our show and begin the job of polishing.

All apologies aside, I could let no more time slip away before I passed my thanks on to you. Our stay at Plymouth was simply the best. Obviously, much ground work had been done before our visit to ensure that all would go smoothly and that everyone in your school community was aware of the details. Because of the great job of preparation, the stay was absolutely smooth running and
very comfortable. ( I mention this because many of you are unaware of the large amount of paperwork and communication needed to make a stay like this possible. At Plymouth, Mr. Whitlock even gave us pre trip information on the number of showers available.) From a mechanical standpoint alone, our stay would be qualified as a great success, but you students, your parents and the entire Plymouth-Canton family made what was already a good trip a great one.

It was so very obvious from the smiles and waves that greeted us that very late Friday night, to the shared cheers at Pontiac, from the Saturday night pizza, treats and camaraderie, to the great breakfast provided by your parents on Sunday, that you are one of the truly special programs in the country. Your attitude and caring was obvious from every vantage point of our stay, whether it was in a short conversation with one of your members, a shared experience with a parent or in simply watching you work in rehearsal and preparation for performance. As much as I was warmed by your hospitality, and inspired by your attitude, I was not surprised at the existence of such a great community. I have shared marching fields with Plymouth since 1990 and have enjoyed so very much sharing the experience with such a powerful program. I have come to know over my years as band director that for any group to survive and stay strong in our activity takes not only much hard work, but a great heart as well. It was such a pleasure to finally experience the heart of your program "close up
and personal." Add to this great experience that I got to spend time with my two dear friends, Mr. Whitlock and Jennifer, ( and to meet Kelly, Mr. Whitlock's wonderful fiance) and I cannot think of a better weekend!

Please know that the weekend at Plymouth took me from a long time fan to full time friend.

Thank you so much for a great experience. I wish you the very best this season and always. See you in INDY!!!

Greg Bimm
Director of Bands
Marian Catholic High School

Mr. Whitlock, Please pass our sincere gratitude on to your school administration. I know that they did not have to extend us such a friendly welcome. We are all in their debt for taking a chance on us.

We are down to a little more than a week before the GLA show, and there are still many work shifts in various areas that need to be filled. It is critical that these spots be filled, to insure that our largest fundraising effort of the year is successful.

For whatever reason, our level of committment from the booster organization as a whole is lagging way behind previous years. I find it rather ironic that, when we decided to co-host this year's show with Livonia Franklin, their biggest concern was the level of committment they would have from their parents. Well, their parents have come through. They march 77 students and their parents have signed up for 64 work shifts. By contrast, we march 190 students and we have filled 80 work shifts. We need to step up too!!

If you have not committed to working GLA yet, please do so. If you have already signed up for one shift, please consider signing up for another. Come to the booster meeting next Tuesday, October 5th ready to do your part. If you can't be at the meeting, give myself or one of the committee chairs a call and we'll be glad to help you find an assignment.

To many of us, working GLA is the most fun and rewarding day in the entire band season. Come give it a try. You owe it to yourself and most of all your student.

HELLO FELLOW PARENTS

It's the time of year for the annual PCMB BANQUET SLIDE-SHOW and 2005-2006 Calendar to be put together. Any BAND parent with digital pictures of the Marching band, or Day Band performances/activities throughout this past calendar year, PLEASE submit pictures for use in these two projects.

The more organized the files are labeled, the easier the assembly will be for both jobs. Can you imagine getting 2000+ digital images to sort thru? If everyone takes just a few minutes to labels the files or put them in folders (i.e. Summer camp, or Car Wash) it would be greatly appreciated.

The more pictures the better. Please submit one of three ways:
1. emailed to: STOCK94GT@YAHOO.COM
2. given to TUBA JOHN M. at school on CD or thumb drive* 3. dropped off at my home. SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 15, 2004 Any images of NATIONALS Nov 4-6 need to be submitted ASAP after the competition.

*Any CD's submitted will not be returned, but if you label your thumb drive, I will return it via my son to your son/daughter at school.

THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT, your cooperation and for your support for the bands. Please remember:
DEADLINE for pictures is: Oct. 15, 2004 Any questions, please don't hesitate to call. Thank You, John M. (Tuba John's Dad)

Hey everyone it has come to our attention that other bands have clever ways to get the attention of the crowd and welcome their band onto the field so some of the band boosters thought it might be a good idea to get the crowd ready for our great show by using train whistles to welcome in our group. How does that sound to you? We would like to order some authentic train whistles and sell them at Scrip night. The whistles will cost $6.00 a piece. If you are interested please let Joan B. via email . She will organize a purchase but time is of the essence so let her know by Friday, Oct. 1. Thanks!!

"I have had the opportunity to find a set of loading ramps for our deserving band. The ramps come with no cost. “DM” Atlas will let us use for weekend competitions. We have three or so more weekend needs for these ramps but I am unable to transport to and from DM. We will need to pick up ramps on Friday before competition and return by Monday 7:00 AM. We need someone who has either a trailer or pickup truck. These ramps are fourteen feet in length. I transported these ramps in my mini van for regionals but the task was dangerous.” Please contact Jerry B. for further information.

Mr. Whitlock would like to remind everyone that there is no practice tomorrow (Monday). Everyone should get some rest and come back Tuesday ready to continue the momentum we are gaining.

Mr. Whitlock and the entire staff would like all to know how proud they are of the students' performances on Saturday. They have been working hard and it showed.

Message 3

I learned a short while ago that Dr. Ryan, PCCS Superintendent, has received a number of emails from boosters today. These emails are on the subject of our inability to gain access to the varsity stadium on Saturday including threats to withhold votes for the sschool bond issue.

The access to the varsity stadium is being addressed at the appropriate level of the administration. I was in contact with the PCCS Facilities Director on Saturday and followed up with him this morning. Please let me assure that no one is more interested than he in finding out the glitch in their system that did not allow the appropriate approval documents to the proper people. He is even more interested in preventing it from happening again.

Each of us must vote the way we choose on the Bond. As far as the band program and the ability to grow the music program, passage of the bond is critical. We all have a right to be mad, angry or frustrated over last Friday and Saturday's occurances at the varsity stadium. However, the bond issue is too big to be decided on the actions of perhaps one individual who did not get the form OK'ing our use of the stadium. We can solve that problem. We can't solve many other problems if the bond does not pass.

Please help our cause in another way. While I can not tell you not to write Dr. Ryan, I can ask you not to write him any more on this. I'm doing that now. Any further contact about withholding votes, etc. will only do harm to our long-term cause.

Thanks for your anticipated cooperation. If you want to get back to me, please feel free to do so at jacksonj46@aol.com. Thanks!

John Jackson, President PCMB

First a clarification. The Phone Bank on behalf of the school district bond proposal will take place this Sunday from noon to 5pm at the Michigan Education Association Offices on Ann Arbor Road near Haggerty. At yesterday's booster meeting we thought it would be held on Monday and Tuesday.

I still need volunteers to represent our group. You do not have to be there the entire day. Even if you could stop by for an hour or 1/2 hour your support will be appreciated. You will be making calls to fellow boosters and booster alumni. It will be "friendly" calls not "cold" calls.

You certainly have the privilege of making up your own mind on this issue, however please when making up your mind take into consideration how important thsi bond issue is to the program we actively support.

If you can spare a small portion of this Sunday please contact me (Gerry O.) by phone or e-mail. Thank You

This will also be a good time to make sure your account is current or better yet, paid ahead. The expenses just keep on coming and we want to avoid using on line of credit. Any help on your part will be appreciated.

The tarps for the show need to be painted this week. We will not be able to paint them outside. The space needs to be at least 20 feet wide and, ideally, 50 feet long. However, other combinations could be acceptable. An area the size of 1/2 a basketball court could work well. The tarps would need to be painted on Wednesday afternoon/evening and left to dry until Friday afternoon.

Anyone knowing about a building, barn, warehouse space, etc. with these dimensions is asked to call Jennifer L. Thanks!

The Rotary Chicken BBQ is this Sunday, September 12. The Plymouth Rotary has been very kind to the band over the years and we would like to help them again this year. We have committed to furnishing 70 students and 8 adult chaperones to help. We have the adults but we need more students.

There are two shifts - 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM.

The sign up sheets are in the band room and will be there through Saturday. Please check with you son or daughter to see if they are signed up for this very worthwhile cause.

Hi everyone. If you have not yet signed up on the PCMB Online directory, please do so soon. There is a link right on the members page and you will find a "Help Cheat-sheet" right there too.

Remember that since the link is on the members page you need our ID and Password to get there. Look for the link on the upper right portion of the members page: http://www.pcmb.net/MP/Member.htm.

Check out the cheat sheet. There is a procedure there for putting a link right on your desktop so the booster directory will only be a click away when you need it.

Greetings from Lake Ann. The music is sounding stronger and better everyday. The students are working very hard. The weather is cooperating by raining (often) late at night.

For those coming up on Saturday to see the show, the present weather forecast calls for a nice start to the afternoon and a temperature of close to 70 degrees. Please park in the parking lot just before and left of the main gate. If this lot is full, please park in the RV park on the opposite side of the main driveway.

The staff, students and chaperones are looking forward to having you see what the has been accomplished this week - it's alot. You can be very proud of you daughter/son. New drill arrived and added to the show. It is very cool.

Our music arranger, Don Hill, and creative consultant, Lorenzo Medrano, are here this week. If you get a chance, feel free to introduct yourself. If you haven't met our new Assistant Director yet, we're sure Brad Green would enjoy saying hi also. Brad will be with us for the entire year.

The show will begin at 1:30 PM on saturday. If you would like to join us for lunch there is still a chance. The cost is $5 and may be paid as you enter the dining hall.

Please drive safely and we hope to see you tomorrow. If you are unable to make it, please let your daughter/son know that you heard how hard they worked (and played) and that everyone at camp is very proud of them.

Thanks to everyone who helped with uniform fitting on Sat. It went pretty smoothly. We still have several people who need to be fit. We will be there Tues. and Thurs. at dinner break.

Thanks also to all who have been helping with our sewing projects. If you have something at home we need it back asap because there is still more to be done. If you can come during dinner break, we can have some helpers start covering buttons (no sewing) while we are fitting the uniforms. Many hands make light work. If you are bringing your child dinner, consider staying for a while.

The following acceptance letter from Bands of America was received this week. It is a great honor for the Wind Ensemble and the PCEP music program. We will discuss more details of the trip in the coming weeks as well as fundraising opportunities.

July 23, 2004

Marc Whitlock, Director
Plymouth-Canton Ed. Park
8400 N. Beck Rd.
Canton, MI 48187

Dear Marc,

It is with great pleasure that we announce the acceptance of and confirm the participation of the Plymouth-Canton Ed. Park Wind Ensemble in the 2005 Bands of America National Concert Band Festival presented by Yamaha. The performance level of all of the auditioning bands was quite exceptional again this year as the level of excellence continues to rise. With a maximum number of groups that can be invited, this makes the selection process most challenging. Based on the recommendation of our distinguished panel of evaluators and on behalf of Scott McCormick, President of Bands of America, and the BOA Board of Directors, we are pleased to extend this invitation and recognition and look forward to your performance in Indianapolis next spring. Congratulations!

This invitation to the 14th annual Bands of America National Concert Band Festival through the audition process is a great honor, and we are sure that your ensemble will represent your school, community, and state with an exceptional performance in Indianapolis during March 10-12, 2005. We promise to make what has been called by participating directors and students a “positively life-changing experience” one of the most memorable events of your teaching career.

Again, on behalf of Scott McCormick and the BOA Board of Directors, we send you our very best wishes for the coming school year. Gayle and I look forward to working with you leading up to and during the 2005 event.

With sincere congratulations,

PCMB Online Booster Directory
-------------------------------------------

Please help me test our online PCMB Booster directory.

I have nearly completed a writing program which we will be using for our On-line booster Directory. It is much nicer than last year's! You can go back to your data any time you want and update it as needed. You can even print the directory in a nice formatted style.
And best of all, you can look up phone numbers online when the printed booklet may not be Available.

However to be comfortable that the thing is going to work well for us, I need as many boosters as possible to test it out.

The online directory has 3 parts. The main display where all of our names and phone numbers will be found, a form for you to enter your own information, and a setup screen where you can configure what the main display will look like.

I am asking that everyone on the fan-out take a few minutes in the next several days and try out all three parts of the on line directory. This is just a test so any data that you enter into your form will be erased in a couple of weeks. You can make stuff up if you like. There already are a bunch of fake names in the directory. Give it a good workout. Don't worry about breaking anything.

I think the program is pretty self explanatory, so instead of me explaining it all here, just go and try it out. There is no need to contact me if everything works properly for you. However, if you have trouble or something is not working, please email me.

You can find the "test" version of the on line directory on the members page, near the top. Click the icon with the caravan on it, labeled "Test the online directory".

Thanks,
Tony

Marching Band practice has been cancelled for tomorrow because of lack of availabilty of the school facility.

The practice scheduled for Color Guard and Percussion on Thursday will be held as scheduled.

The school is unavailable because the floor maintenance schedule (stripping & waxing)has been accelerated to this week instead of the normal August schedule.

An update on rescheduling the final cabin and bus sign-ups will follow shortly.

This year there are going to be some modifications to the uniforms. The magicians will need much help with the 'spells' to accomplish these tasks. There are four items to be done. We are going to start with two of them this week. We need both sewers and non-sewers. This week it will be take home tasks. If you can help (please) stop and see us this Wednesday when you drop your marchers off for practice. If you do not drop off your child and would like to help, please call me. We especially need sewers-all the gauntlets have to be changed. Lots of helpers make quick work.

We are going to need gray gloves this year, so we are probably going to have to dye them. If anyone has any experience with this, please let us know. We are also in need of another magician this year. Please consider this fun position.

Mark Adams, the PCMB Visual Caption Lead, is looking for a good home for his two cats. They are two year old brothers named Colby (orange and white coat) and Jack (black and white coat). They are extremely playful and a lot of fun to have around the house. He is moving to a new home in Ann Arbor and, unfortunately, can not take them with him. He is hoping a PCMB family will be able to give them a good home! Please call or email Mark with any questions.

As you all know we are selling water at Art in the Park this week-end. Gene and I signed up for the 10 AM till noon shift on Saturday. Gene has been requested for a higher calling at the same time! The crew is having a meeting to discuss prop strategies for the coming band season. Gene is a real clever guy but he has yet been able to master the art of being in 2 places at the same time. I am looking for someone who is willing to help me sell water at the above mentioned time. Please contact me.

We thanked everyone else last night. It is now time to thank Booster Members.

THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the DCI show an overwhelming success! While the total financial numbers are not available, we know we did well.

The phrase "it takes a village" is certainly true in the case of this show. So many Boosters and students played multiple roles to staff all the positions and responsibilities. There are also a number of "secret heroes" who contributed to the success in a big or small way. We thank them too. Then, there are those committee heads that put in incredible amounts of time to prepare for this show in less than three months. Those committee heads are:

Rick P.
Gerry O.
Mark S.
Lorraine P.
Kathy C.
Peter J.
Si N.

Thanks, too, to Marc Whitlock for proposing we do this and giving his advice and support whenever needed. We will pass along the final results soon.

WELL DONE!!!

Car Wash

Each marching band and color guard member should have received a packet with the car wash instructions, tickets and pledge forms during band camp last week. Although a small charge for the car wash expenses is charged to each member, this is an excellent opportunity to raise several hundred dollars toward your personal accounts. Please contact Gary H. or Gary S. should you need a packet or have any questions. Additional tickets, pledge forms and instructions are available on the pcmb website.

We understand that there is some confusion among those that would like to watch the rehearsals of The Cavaliers and Madison Scouts. The Cavaliers are already here and practicing at the Varsity Stadium today and tomorrow (they are sleeping at Discovery Middle School).

The Madison Scouts will be arriving tomorrow and are staying at the Summit and will be practicing at Heritage Park near The Summit. If you have any other questions as to where a specific Corps is staying or practicing please call Gerry O.

I (Gerry Olexsey) need some quick volunteers. I have to say in over six years this is the strangest request I have ever had to make.

First a little background. Each of our Corps attending our event on Tuesday have a traveling kitchen. Thsi is how they feed their group. Each has a drain for dishwater or regular drain water. Normally all we have to do is locate them next to a sewer and they drain right to the sewer. I bet you did not know this, but:

THE PARK HAS NO EXTERNAL SEWERS IT ALL GOES TO RETENTION PONDS!!!!

Therefore we need to catch their water in tubs and empty them inside the drains in the school. I need volunteers for the following:

- 2 to 3 on Monday to handle two meal times for one Corps
- 6 to 9 on Tuesday to handle two meals for three Corps

If you can volunteer you will be my hero in life and someone I will try and emulate if I ever decide to grow up. Student volunteers are welcomed.

Please contact me by e-mail or by phone, or see me tonight where I can kiss your feet in public.

By the way they trap nay food particles or solids so we will only be dealing with dishwater at worst.

Thank You

Hello PCMB Boosters

The PCMB Golf Outing is fast approaching. We could be on the verge of having a very good fund raising effort for both individual member accounts and the general fund.

For each paid golfer at $125, the individual band member receives $25 credit to their account. Sell a sponsor sign for $200 and the individual band member receives $100 credit to their account.

Come as a single golfer or a group.

The cut off date for sponsor signs is 7/6 booster meeting.

We do not have a firm cut off date for the exact number of golfers, however we have tried to plan for a shot-gun start. To do a shot-gun start Fox Hills requires a minimum of 60 golfers, right now we have checks for 20 golfers. The course would like the shot-gun plan confirmed by the end of next week 6/18. Overall interest indicates 60 is possible. If you plan to participate in the outing please register as soon as possible.

Registration forms are available at Scrip on Thursdays and at www.pcmb.net/golfflyer.

Registration forms can be dropped off at Scrip or mailed to:
Steve G.

Any questions please call Steve at work or cell. We look forward to seeing you at the 4th Annual PCMB Outing, 7/24, at Fox Hills.

Thanks, Steve G.

Thanks to the crew that helped spread new topsoil Monday night.  We need more help on Wednesday, June 9th at anytime after 6:00 PM. This is a chance to do a really nice job and give the band a good practice facility for this fall.

The school district grounds department will be delivering more dirt on Wednesday. They will distribute it with the front-end loader to the low spots and to save us some work. We will need to finish spreading the piles of dirt and raking. We will then finish by putting down new seed.

Please stop by for any amount of time you are able to give to this important effort. Thanks!

We need 5 to 10 volunteers to finish spreading the additional dirt that was delivered to fix up the marching band practice field and to re-seed it. The volunteers are needed on Monday, June 7th at 6:30 PM. It should take more than 60 to 90 minutes if enough people will volunteer.

As mentioned at last night's Booster Meeting, we have an opportunity to significantly upgrade the marching band practice field. This is being done through a partnership between the Plymouth High School administration, the athletic department/boosters and the Music Boosters. Arrangements have been made to have the field watered all summer long so there should be a great field for the band to practice beginning in late summer.

Please email John J. if you are able to help out on Monday, June 7th. Thanks!

It is time again to start planning for the annual PCMB Car Wash. Timing for the event is set for Saturday August 14 from 9 am – 5pm at the Canton parking lot. This fund raiser can be one of the best fund raising activities monetarily for you and a way for the teenage marcher to help out with the fund raising. We wash approximately 1200 cars each year as a free car wash and raise funds through pledges that each marcher gathers. We expect that all marching band members attend for 2 hour shifts that day and we need plenty of Adult helpers also. Please clear your schedules to help out that day. Gary S. and Gary H. will be presenting additional information about signing up and following up with pledge forms.

Some important information:

· At the June 1st Booster meeting, adult sign up forms will be available.

· Pledge forms will handed out to marchers during the Saturday June rehearsals and during the minicamp in June. At the same time, sign up times for the marchers will be available.

· The car wash is planned to occur on the same day that uniform fitting occurs in August.

I'm happy to say that we have quite a few band students signed up to walk! I'm very proud of them. There are still plenty of times available for anyone else who wishes to participate.

The long range weather forecast indicates good weather for the week-end: Partly cloudy with a hi around 70. Just perfect for several laps around the pond at Heritage Park.

Hope to see you at Relay!

Kathy S.

Please hold off on trying to get a room for Nationals as there is a problem with the password. I am in contact with the travel bureau at this time and will do a fan out as soon as I find out.

Hi all,

Please note that the Master calendar for the total program is located at www.pcepbands.net, and then click on "Events."

Many students are forgetting about rehearsals and times. We've lots of absences due to "I forgot." Please go to the date or event, click on it, and it gives you more detailed info.

Note that this week the marching band rehearsal is from 12-6pm. This has not changed from the original published calendar from February. We wanted to give the prom folks some time to sleep in. Also, I have added four Wind Ensemble rehearsal times that are new that we must have to be able to play our music. I had two full rehearsal last week and two this week due to tests and field trips. Please check carefully if you are in that group.

I hope everyone is well and here's to a great Saturday!

Take care,
Coach Whitlock

Bands of America is sold out of the center seating. I have ordered the next best tickets which are $27 and between the 15 and 30 yard lines. I could not specify upper or lower...so we will have to see what they send us at the end of October.

We will reimburse you the difference ($8 per ticket) after I get the details worked out with Peter J.

Thank you for your patience in this matter. If you have any questions, please contact me.

Jeanne S.

BOA GRAND NATIONAL’S ROOMS INDIANAOPOLIS, IN NOVEMBER 4-6,2004

It’s that time again to make plans for Grand Nationals. It is time to make your room reservations. Over the 3-day event we have rooms reserved for PCEP at a great rate. We will be staying at the Crowne Plaza at $146.72 per night (tax included), the Hyatt Regency at $133.28 per night (tax included) and the Marriott Downtown at $155.68 (tax included).

All the hotels are very close to the Dome. We have in the past two years worked it so that you can make your reservations via the Internet. If you don’t have Internet access at home, the Plymouth and Canton Libraries have computers with access to the Internet available, or find a band family willing to have you over to make your room reservations. I will be coordinating rooms this year and am willing to help those without Internet access over at my home.

Do not call the hotels directly or you will not get the price break BOA has arranged for PCEP families. All reservations must be made before October 8th. It is possible we could run out of rooms by then, so the sooner you reserve the better! However— a word of caution — do not reserve more rooms than you will use because for every room you cancel after September 1st you pay a cancellation fee of $25. Any rooms reserved and not cancelled by 11/1/04 will cost you one full night’s lodging plus tax. A credit card must be supplied at the time you reserve the room. If you have friends or family who want to come to Grand Nationals, you can have them reserve their own room and supply their own credit card information and they can still get into our PCMB block of rooms using our code.

We will have plenty of rooms to go around— but again the earlier you reserve the better! Confirmations may be sent to you via e-mail, fax or snail mail.

Here goes… ...by Internet:
1. Go to www.Indy.org/conventions.
2. Choose the Grand National Championships.
3. A screen will come up asking for our password and that is … ..BAGPPA1105.
4. On the left you can enter the dates of Nationals which are Nov. 4-6th...leaving the morning of the 6th.
5. Follow the directions after that as to your own personal information and your needs.
By Phone:
1. Call the Housing Bureau at 1-317-639-5387, M-F from 8am-5pm before October 1st.
2. Give the same code: BAGPPA1105.
Please call me with ANY questions. Take care………..Dottie K.

We will have a notary public at the May 4 booster meeting to help notarize the Medical Release forms (required for all band/guard members). Please try to arrive early so we can get these forms signed/complete, with the least amount of disruption to the meeting as possible.

Thanks, Karen N.

Item 1: FLOWER SALE:

This year's flower sale was the best ever! We ordered close to 1,300 items. That means we really have our work cut out for us on Saturday May 8, 2004. The delivery truck arrives at 8AM. We will begin to unload shortly there after. 30 to 40 individuals are needed to make this process run smoothly. If you are able to lend a hand, please contact Kathy or Gene S. by phone or email.

Item 2: RELAY FOR LIFE:

Relay for Life is fast approaching ( May 15-16). We are still looking for individuals for the following:

1) Walking the track at Heritage Park.
2) Setting up/taking down our campsite.
3) Assembling luminaries
4) Purchasing luminaries ($10) or "Love Notes" ($1)
5) Lighting luminaries on Saturday evening.

We will sell luminaries at Thursday night scrip and at our next booster meeting.  There are several brave people that have volunteered to spend the night at Relay. If you wish to join them lets us know. For more information or if you wish to volunteer to make this year's Relay a huge success contact: Kathy, Gene or Kimme S.

On Monday evening, April 26th, Archie's Restaurant in Livonia (30471 Plymouth Road--between Merriman and Middlebelt) will have a Max and Erma type fund raiser for the Franklin marching band. This would be an opportunity to help a neighboring marching band and build some good relations with a competing band. Just indicate to the waitress when you order that you are there to support the Franklin Marching Band. Wear your yellow so that the Franklin folks know you are there to add your support. Thanks, Guy R.
